Teaching and tutoring experience:
I am a Cambridge graduate with a BA in History of Art and an MA in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic from SOAS, University of London.
I have 11 years’ experience supporting students to succeed in gaining places at their chosen schools, as well as at their all-important GCSE and A Level exams. I am experienced at supporting students as they look to the future, with university admissions, including Oxbridge supplementary tests and interviews for undergraduate and postgraduate level.
I specialise in assisting with school admissions and I have experience preparing students for the 11+, 13+, 14+ and 16+, with successful admissions to a range of schools including: Alleyn's School, Bryanston School, Falkner House Girls, Grey coats’ Hospital School, Marlborough College and Queen's Gate School. I specialise in supporting students to improve their skills in creative writing, comprehension and verbal reasoning.
I spent a year working in one of London’s leading education consultancies, and as a result I am very familiar with the steps necessary to prepare students to succeed in gaining a place at their chosen school.
As a tutor, I find the most important way to make progress is by taking the time to understand my students’ needs, and to take a patient - but thorough - approach to the task at hand. Of course, education is certainly not all about exam results, and I strive to help my students improve their confidence across the board.
Additionally, I have a wealth of experience with teaching EAL, having taught in China the year after I graduated from Cambridge.
I have taught children with SEN including dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD, and I can tailor sessions to ensure the best learning outcomes.
Teaching style and philosophy:
I am an enthusiastic and supportive tutor, who enjoys assisting students to grow their confidence. When appropriate, I can stretch ambitious students who are aiming high, and I do so with good humour.
Additional information:
I have lived and worked internationally in Shanghai, Amman (Jordan), Jerusalem, Doha, and Cairo. I am based in Woolwich and able to teach in central London, ideally with good connections to the Elizabeth or Jubilee lines or London Bridge station. I can also tutor online. I have worked for 8 years in academic research centres and I am preparing a PhD application, which, if successful, would make tutoring a key part of my 5-year plan!
