Teaching and tutoring experience:
I have been privately tutoring on and off since 2015. I used to tutor on tutorful but stopped during my degree which coincided with covid. Since finishing uni I have accumulated a few clients in my local area but I want to expand my client base and get more experience. I currently work as an SEN TA at Jubilee Primary school in Brixton, which has helped me develop a wide range of strategies for dealing with primary age children.
Teaching style and philosophy:
My previous work as a tutor and my current work with children with SEN has made me patient but firm. I know how to keep a lesson going along track but I don’t need to be extremely strict or disciplinarian to do so. I like to approach specifically the student’s individual subject weaknesses and work from there. I believe that good academic knowledge requires a strong foundation and therefore I am very detail oriented about my student’s knowledge base - I ensure they don’t have any blind spots before moving forward with a subject. I am a big advocate of positive reinforcement and I like my students to enjoy their learning with me.
Additional information:
I work part time as a theatre director, writer and actor, so I am a creative person and this comes through in my approach to education, which I believe my students, particularly the younger ones, appreciate. I live in Clapham and am willing to commute to anywhere in south, west and central London, and most of north and east London.
