Teaching and tutoring experience:
I’ve been an academic and exam preparation tutor since 2010, and I love working with students one on one. I excel at teaching essay writing and maths and have long standing experience as a U.S. college entrance exam tutor. I also have experience both completing the IB program as a student myself and teaching various parts of the program to my own students. I’m keen to take on GCSE and A Level tutoring, and I’m especially interested in helping students develop their study skills across disciplines. I’ve worked with students of all ages, ranging from primary school to university, both in person and online, and I’ve supported students with learning differences such as ADHD, non-verbal autism, and dyslexia.
After receiving my undergraduate and graduate degrees at U.S. institutions, I lived in Northern California and New York City, where I tutored with several tutoring companies, including Swell Education in San Francisco and Brownstone Tutors in New York. I moved to London in 2021 and worked with UES Education, tutoring secondary schools maths. For the past few years, I’ve taken time off tutoring to focus on some creative projects, and I’m now ready to work with students again.
Teaching style and philosophy:
I believe in teaching towards independence. My methodology as a tutor includes a three-step process in which I customise my approach to meet my students' needs, help them master their chosen exam or subject, and in doing so, teach them the fundamental critical thinking and study skills that will enable them to become stronger learners regardless of subject matter.
In my sessions with my students, I prioritise their learning needs and individual preferences as I believe there is no one size fits all approach. While I hold my students to high standards, I am also flexible and understanding. I believe that learning is a personal and unpredictable process, and my role as a tutor is to support my students through this process.
Additional information:
I am also a writer and a musician. I sing in London-based choir called MUSARC, and I make my own music. I love to read, and I love spending time with my cats. I'm based in Muswell Hill (N10), and I'm willing to teach anywhere in London that is about an hour from N10 via public transit. I also have experience teaching online and am able to take on online students.
