Teaching and tutoring experience:

In 2019, I started tutoring in-person at an 11+ centre in Birmingham, where I taught students aged 7-11 in larger groups. Soon after, I started online one-on-one sessions in 11+ and KS3 Maths, particularly for students who struggled in certain areas. Since then, I have expanded my offering to teach History GCSE (iGCSE and AQA), German GCSE (AQA), English Language GCSE (AQA), 13+ (History scholarship tests in particular), ISEB Common Pre-Test. I have found students through agencies and by making my own personal contacts, and I have consistently offered frequent and reliable communication and high-quality lessons with excellent results.

Teaching style and philosophy:

My teaching style is adaptable and engaging. I believe that every student has different strengths, areas for improvement and ways of learning, so I tailor my explanations, pace and activities to suit the individual. Through patience, I aim to create a supportive environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.

A key part of my approach is building both confidence and genuine interest in the subject. I use discussions, quizzes and short activities to make lessons interactive and informative.

I also believe that regular retrieval and review are essential for long-term progress. I therefore use frequent revision and practice tests to reinforce learning and identify any gaps in understanding. Longer writing tasks are often set as homework, allowing lesson time to focus on planning, structure and detailed feedback.

Additional information:

At secondary school and university, I took part in debating and drama. These experiences developed my confidence in speaking to groups, presenting ideas clearly and finding creative ways to hold the attention of those listening. They have also helped me become more responsive to others, as both debating and acting require careful listening, adaptability and an awareness of how different people engage with information.
