Teaching and tutoring history:

I volunteered as a peer-to-peer tutor at Slough and Eton School and at Holyport College while I was at Eton;and more recently, I am in my third year as a supervisor at Cambridge, where I teach HSPS students a paper in the history of political thought.

Teaching sytle and philosophy:

At its core my teaching philosophy is about combining a rigorous and thorough approach to the cognitive and intellectual side of learning with a genuine interest in and care for students as individuals. That means that I always give as detailed and targeted feedback on work as I can—providing extensive comments on essays, for instance—and make sure that I am on top of both curricular/exam requirements and where the individual pupil is at in their own progress. But I combine that with a genuine attempt to know the pupils as individuals, which I love to do: finding out about their hobbies, interests, plans, and the like, and making sure that they feel supported pastorally as well as pedagogically. I've found that combination of focuses both very rewarding for myself and productive for the pupils I've supervised.

Additional information:

I'm based in Cambridge but am willing to travel a bit to providing tutoring; I much prefer in-person teaching, but am of course happy to do it online as well. I've spent two days shadowing lessons at Eton and Harrow, and have extensive experience of how public schools function. I also have wide experience of the Oxbridge admissions process. I'm a Christian and am a committed member of my local church; in this context, I've volunteered with Sunday schools and summer camps, working with children of all ages from 3 to 18.
