Teaching and tutoring experience
Hugo has tutored extensively, advising on a large number of Oxbridge applications over the past three years focusing on History as well as the Liberal Arts. He has consulted on Personal Statements, and provided interview practise for numerous subsequent applications, the majority of whom were awarded places at Oxford and Cambridge University.
Hugo has experience teaching in schools abroad, having tutored extensively during his time in Kenya in Kibera, Nairobi. He taught English, Maths and Science to students between the ages of 8 and 16, many of whom were from extremely disadvantaged backgrounds.
He also has extensive experience coaching sports to the first year students at Winchester College during his time as a senior pupil at the school. He coached every week for three years during his time as the Captain of the School’s First XI football.
Hugo believes that a methodical and detailed approach to study and revision during the vitally important approach to senior school entrance examinations is of paramount importance, having greatly aided him in the build up to his entrance examinations. Each topic can be approach in a myriad of ways, and the key to cracking each topic is to identify which approaches work best with each individual pupil. A patient and focused approach to tutoring enables each student to identify exactly where it is that any confusion lies, and tutor and pupil can then work together to iron out any areas of difficulty within each subject.
Additional information
Hugo is a passionate sportsman, having played football for the Oxford Blues and having been appointed Captain of the Winchester College 1st XI for three consecutive years from the age of 16.
Hugo is also a very experienced musician. He was top music scholar at Winchester College, and plays the piano, violin, viola and guitar. He has also sung in numerous choirs.
He is a keen mountaineer, and has climbed a 6,150m mountain in the Himalayas during his school holidays.
