Teaching and tutoring experience

Chesney has extensive experience tutoring History, English, French and Science to students from 11+ to A-Level. He has worked with several families from his secondary school and through personal recommendations, and more recently has taught a number of students preparing for their pre-test exams in English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning as well as entrance exams to King’s College Wimbledon and St Paul’s. Even whilst at school, Chesney volunteered as a subject mentor to help younger students with coursework and homework in English, French, and Chemistry. During the year abroad of his undergraduate degree, he also worked as an English tutor with Babylangues in Paris, in a system that combines childcare with immersive language education.

Chesney worked as a teacher at his synagogue for about four years, both as a one-on-one tutor and as a class teacher for up to thirty students. There, he taught Hebrew, Judaism, and citizenship. In order to work in this capacity he underwent an extensive training course. In a similar role, he planned and executed educational residential summer camps in Wales and Spain, catering for up to sixty children in one year group at points. The syllabus on these camps covered citizenship, social issues, and current affairs.

Additional information

Chesney has further experience as a piano teacher, and has received Grade 8 Distinction in Classical Piano.

In his final exams at Oxford, where he studied English and French, Chesney received particularly high marks in spoken French, French translation, and French composition. As a non-native speaker of the language, he is confident that he has a particularly good perspective as a French tutor for younger Anglophone students pursuing the subject. Chesney gets on very well with both younger and older students, due to his experience in the classroom and in less formal educational environments.
