Teaching and tutoring experience

Ferdinand has tutored, for the last two years, two Italian students who wanted to break into English education. The elder of the two is currently at Worth College following a successful application, and the younger is preparing to take his entrance examinations for Oakham, Worth and Uppingham. The younger brother is severely dyslexic and has ADHD, and Ferdinand’s tuition has consisted predominantly of assisting him with reading, translating from English to Italian and back, and basic Common Entrance Maths. With the older brother, Ferdinand was able to take him from a relatively basic level of conversational English to being able to write sophisticated, GCSE A*-level literary criticism, and placed a heavy emphasis on ensuring his understanding and capacity to employ English prose of a formal, academic register. He also prepared him to sit GCSE Mathematics.

On a more informal basis, Ferdinand has helped several people tailor their Personal Statements for Oxbridge applications. He has also offered preparatory interview sessions for a number of people who are currently at Oxford, some reading Modern Languages, and others reading English Literature and History.

Ferdinand is a is very personable, friendly and approachable tutor. During his time in Italy over the past two years, he has developed a strong friendship with the family, and has seen the benefits of this bear fruit in the progress achieved by the two boys. A relationship based on trust and respect, in which the students can enjoy their time both in and out of lessons, has been crucial to making these trips such a success. Allowing their personalities to shine has been a great factor in the boys achieving their full potential.
